This resulted in ecosystem collapse and decline of marine megafauna including formerly abundant short-beaked common dolphins. Local and regional non-governmental organisations have joined forces to call for urgent fisheries management action that may result in ecosystem recovery, protect biodiversity, preserve fish stocks, and ensure the long-term sustainability of fisheries in the area.
